Why are antibiotics recommended for Bronchititis?

I have bronchitis and it's a pain. My question is why do doctors and some of the previous responses to "how to get rid of bronchitis" in Yahoo Answers recommend taking antibiotics. Antibiotics only work for bacteria infections from what I understand and bronchitis is not bacterial. I guess my real questions is What WORKS for bronchitis? It's getting to me bad. My doctor knows and I'm on tons of meds that don't work.
