Best time to break baby of pacifier?

my daughter will be 1 in a few weeks. she didnt start taking a pacifier until she was about 5 months old but it has become my best friend lol now she looses them all the time gets mad and throws them or plays the i throw it u pick it up game... to be honest im fed up. people are confused why id take it away frm her now because she doesnt have any teeth so they dont see a problem.... am i nuts for taking it away? what are some tips to make the transition easier
