Can my 3 1/2 month old get sick from being around cigarette smoke?

My mother in law is a smoker and doesn't smoke around my daughter but everytime we pick my daughter up her blankets, clothes, and diaper bag smells like smoke? Can my daughter get sick from this? Right now she is real congested and has a bad running nose. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what should I do??I need major advice
